For the first time ever, our local media talent had the valuable opportunity to pitch their stories to the who's who in the Asian media industry – and boy were we blown away by all the creative potential we saw! More than 60 projects from local companies were submitted for the Call for Proposals launched as part of IMDA's S$30million International Co-Production Fund introduced last year. The shortlisted teams pitched their stories to our renowned panellists, which included Dr Johnnie To 杜琪峯, visionary Hong Kong filmmaker and producer, Ofanny CHOI, CEO of Celestial Tiger Entertainment, Marianne Lee, Chief of Content Acquisition and Development for Viu, and Raphael P., Co-Founder & Head of Content Asia at Rise Entertainment Group. Stay tuned to find out which projects will be selected by the end of the year. We can't wait to see these #MadeWithSG projects hit the world stage! #Didyouknow that data centres are a critical component of our digital economy? They house the computing power necessary for all things digital, such as cloud computing, AI, and more. As digitalisation continues to shape our world, it is important for us to find a sustainable way to store big data, which drives business operations and work processes today. This is why we're collaborating with industry players and making strides forward in our push for a greener digital future. Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information Janil Puthucheary chaired a roundtable with players across the data centre ecosystem to seek their views on building sustainable pathways for growth while fulfilling Singapore's international climate commitments. The feedback from the industry will be incorporated in the Green Data Centre Roadmap, to be launched later this month. Stay tuned to find out how we will continue to work with industry partners to push the boundaries for green energy initiatives. #IMDA #IMDigitalArchitect #DataCenter

In a dynamic data-driven landscape, promoting data protection awareness and practices to safeguard our digital future is key. We recently had the privilege of participating in the recent Privacy Awareness Week 2024, hosted by the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA). Throughout the week, we engaged in a series of discussions that delved into how responsible data sharing and innovative privacy technologies are instrumental for growth and innovation. These dialogues were a testament to Singapore's pivotal role as a global hub for crucial discussions on data protection and privacy. As one of the first SG Digital Leaders appointed by IMDA, Justin Lee, Chief Product Officer at ShopBack, received mentorship from a global tech leader under IMDA’s SG Digital Leadership Accelerator (SGDLA). The lessons from his mentor enhanced Justin’s problem-solving capabilities – knowledge that he now passes on to younger talent in the tech community. For Justin, being able to “pay it forward and to contribute to the strengthening the tech talent pool in Singapore" is a critical component of SGDLA. He also relishes the opportunities to connect with “the many bright minds who will one day become the region's tech leaders”. The SGDLA offers mentorship and peer coaching opportunities to up-and-coming tech leaders in Singapore. Justin, since becoming a Digital Leader, has enriched his career development and played an instrumental role in shaping the future of the country’s digital workforce. Looking to make a career switch to the exciting world of tech? Our Company-Led Training (CLT) Programme helps you unlock new career pathways in the tech industry! Through CLT, which combines instructor-led coaching with on-the-job training, trainees can sharpen their tech skills and gain industry exposure and access to experienced mentors. For Alfred Ang and Christopher Tan, making a mid-career switch into tech was less daunting through CLT. Alfred joined the Visa Technology Traineeship Programme where he strengthened his coding capabilities and technical skills through a structured training programme, coupled with on-the-job training. For Christopher, the COVID pandemic pushed him to pivot from a 15-year-long optometrist career to being a tech professional. Taking this leap helped to widen his career prospects, and allowed him to explore a tech role through training at Temus, while maintaining a stable income. Curious about their journeys and how CLT can change your career path? Find out more: https://lnkd.in/g_wScq8D #LifeInTechnicolour #IMDA #IMDigitalArchitect

With cloud technology forming the backbone for emerging digital technologies, we're racing ahead to ensure that our enterprises can harness AI to transform and stay ahead through strengthened collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). This was announced by Senior Minister of State, Mr Kiat How Tan at the 10th Amazon Web Services ASEAN Summit held yesterday. Through this collaboration, local companies will receive help to better understand GenAI as they innovate, develop and deploy customised GenAI digital solutions for their unique business needs. By deepening their in-house capabilities and competencies, they can leverage GenAI to improve productivity, create new products and enter new markets, driving business growth. Local talent will also be able to build industry-relevant competencies, as AWS furthers their partnership with ITE to incorporate AI education into their curriculum, in line with IMDA’S TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) for ITE and Polytechnics Alliance (TIP Alliance) effort. #Didyouknow that the online movie you just watched likely travelled across the seas and oceans’ floor before reaching you? In fact, over 95% of international digital traffic is carried by undersea submarine fibre optic cables around the world. As one of the world’s key submarine cable hubs, Singapore is where many international submarine cables land. This is also why we can enjoy great digital connectivity and our businesses can transact at breakneck speeds. Earlier this week, we welcomed ICPC | International Cable Protection Committee, the leading international submarine cable industry organisation, to Singapore for their annual ICPC Plenary. Over 200 professionals across private and public sectors from around the world shared best practices and exchanged ideas on policy, legislation and technical developments to promote the safeguarding and resilience of submarine cables. As part of the event, IMDA Deputy Chief Executive Aileen Chia gave an address at the Plenary and participated in a closed-door ICPC-CIL (NUS Center for International Law) panel discussion, where she shared how Singapore is doubling its submarine cable landings as part of our Digital Connectivity Blueprint to boost our digital connectivity to the rest of the world. She also highlighted how we work with the industry and regional governments to improve best practices in facilitating cable repairs. These efforts will support global digital data flows and enhance Singapore’s role as a resilient digital hub, as we continue to architect a shared digital future for all. #IMDA #IMDigitalArchitect

Congratulations to our Singaporean filmmaking talents who are shining bright at the prestigious 77th Festival de Cannes, including Singaporean producer Weijie Lai who co-produced feature film "Viet and Nam" and Wei Liang Chiang who directed feature film "Mongrel". Two other Singaporean-directed short films, "Withered Blossoms" by Lionel Seah and "Cold Cut" by Siyou Tan will also be competing in the La Cinef section and screening under Directors' Fortnight respectively. "Viet and Nam", which was awarded the Southeast Asia Co-Production grant under IMDA's Media Talent Progression Programme (MTPP), is in the running for the Un Certain Regard selection. This is a first for both Singaporean producer Weijie Lai and Director Truong Minh Quy. The film was also recently picked up for distribution by Pyramide International, one of France’s biggest independent film distributors. "Mongrel", a recipient of the New SG Director grant under IMDA’s MTPP, is director-writer Chiang Wei Liang's first feature film, selected for screening at Directors’ Fortnight and eligible for Camera d’Or – an award for the best first feature film. The co-production between Singapore, Taiwan and France was also recently picked up for distribution by Paris-based independent sales company, Alpha Violet. IMDA SG Digital Scholarship alumni Weijie and Wei Liang are set to showcase their stories on the world stage. Join us in showing our support as they compete globally!
