Graduate with a Diploma with Merit in Early Childhood Development and Education and a Minor in Social Leadership

[Ministerial Dialogues] I had the opportunity to represent Ngee Ann Polytechnic to participate in a small group closed-door discussion with Dr Maliki, Second Minister for the Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore. Later that day, I also attended a dialogue with Ms Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore and the Ministry of National Development Singapore organised by REACH Singapore and SMU Apolitical Society. The topic of the dialogue was International Relations - Singapore at a Crossroads. These are some of my key takeaways from the 2 dialogues. 🗺️ Overseas Exposure has never been more important. Did you know that the Ministry of Education aims to have more than 70% of Institute of Higher Learning students have overseas exposure to the ASEAN region, China and India? One of MOE’s 21st-century competences in global awareness and it can be cultivated through overseas exposure. Overseas exposure creates an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a new culture and walk away with a more holistic understanding of the world. Being able to think from a global perspective is an important skill to ensure that the students are future-ready. 💪🏻 Might is NOT right! If might is right, Singapore would not be able to survive. As a small country, our need to stay relevant to the world is of vital importance. Being relevant allows us to better contribute to global affairs such as global policy debates or being involved in international trade. Singapore actively works towards ensuring that small countries have a platform on the global stage. Some of the efforts include the Forum of Small States (FOSS) and the Global Governance Group (3G). I was also able to meet many like-minded individuals who are interested in our education system and international relations. Hope to see you guys around at future dialogues!! ☺️☺️

Thank you to all the students who joined us for the dialogue on “Beyond Differences : A Civic Conversation on Race and Religion”! 🤗 We appreciate your candid sharing about your different experiences and thoughts on religion and cultural issues with one another, guided by National Youth Council Singapore’s conversation toolkit and the awesome youth facilitators from Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA). The students were forthcoming with their questions, which were responded by SPS Eric Chua and REACH Advisory Panel member Mr Thambyrajah T on areas such as the challenges Singapore faces to maintain racial and religious harmony. Our panel members also shared on the importance of keeping an open mind and continuing to engage in such conversations to better understand one another. Thank you for the lively discussions, and we hope to see you at future REACH events! ✨
